The unofficial end of the short course season in Suffolk County came last weekend at the Suffolk County Championships. There, Three Village Swim Club was led to the title by Noah Cakir ahead of Team Suffolk as the two top clubs in the county that occupies most of eastern Long Island.

Cakir won three events and swam three personal bests in four events on the weekend. He just-missed his personal best in his primary event, the 100 breaststroke, in 54.85, but expanded his versatility in the rest of his events. That was the only race in which he didn’t swim a best time last weekend.

He won the 100 free in 45.99 (previous PB – 46.90); the 100 fly in 49.15 (previous PB – 49.42); and finished 2nd in the 100 back in 50.38 (previous PB – 50.61).

As Cakir enters his crucial junior season of high school this fall, where recruiting really ramps up, those swims are reflective of the two-and-a-half second drop he had during the short course season in his 200 IM.

Other Notable Results From the Meet:

  • Uncommitted junior Aaron Mendoza, Cakir’s Team Suffolk teammate, won the 100 IM in 51.48, the 100 back in 49.33, and swam a personal best in the 100 breaststroke in 58.84.
  • 13-year-old Brooke Orner from Sachem Swim Club swam best times in the 100 free (51.95) and 100 fly (57.63). That 100 free time ranks her in the top 20 among 13-year-old girls so far this season. Both swims broke SSC Team Records for 13-14 girls. She currently holds six 11-12 team records and six 13-14 team records in yards. Fedor Mironov also broke the SSC Team Record in the 100 fly for 15-18 boys with a 49.97.
  • Trevor Green and Brendan Miller from the Three Village Swim Club won four races each. Green won the 100 free (47.64 – PB), 100 fly (51.20 – PB), 100 back (51.91), and 100 IM (54.58) in the 13-14 age group. Miller won the 100 free (51.45), 100 back (58.04), 100 breast (1:09.49), and 100 IM (58.38) in the 11-12 age group.
