New Zealand: OCEANIA CUP TO BE BROADCAST FREE

OCEANIA CUP TO BE BROADCAST FREE

In a move aimed at bringing high-quality hockey action to all corners of New Zealand, Hockey New Zealand (HNZ) has announced that the upcoming Oceania Cup, presented by Sentinel Homes, will be broadcast live and on-demand on TVNZ+ – entirely free for all Kiwis.

Last held in Australia in 2019, The Oceania Cup will see the Vantage Black Sticks (VBS) men and women take on the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras in Whāngarei from August 10-13 with the VBS Women looking to defend their title, and automatic Olympic qualification up for grabs.

HNZ has partnered with TVNZ+ to exclusively showcase one of the most anticipated hockey events of the year through their new sports hub. Sports fans from across New Zealand will be able to cheer on their favourite Black Sticks players from the comfort of their homes or on the move.

HNZ CEO Anthony Crummy shared his enthusiasm, “We’re thrilled to partner with TVNZ+ to broadcast the Oceania Cup. It’s an outstanding opportunity to bring top-tier hockey to more New Zealanders.

“Our mission has always been to make our sport more accessible to all, and this partnership is a great step forward in achieving that.”

TVNZ’s General Manager, Sport and Events, Melodie Robinson said, “We’re incredibly excited to host the Hockey NZ Oceania Cup on TVNZ+ this August. This epic tournament will be the first local event to land on TVNZ+’s newly launched sports hub and importantly, as with all content on our streaming platform, it will be free-to-air for audiences.

“It’s been a long time since viewers have been able to watch the Black Sticks in action with TVNZ. We know Kiwi audiences will be thrilled with this new addition to our line-up.”

HNZ and TVNZ+ are committed to delivering top-quality hockey to fans throughout the country wherever they are and however they choose.

The TVNZ+ sports hub

From 1 July, TVNZ+ will offer a new sports hub housing all of TVNZ’s sports rights in one place.

Accessed via the TVNZ+ menu alongside TV and Movie options, clicking on ‘Sport’ will take users through to a comprehensive streaming platform where fans will have the ability to pick and choose the events, matches and games they’d like to watch.

In addition to live coverage, TVNZ+ will host replays, highlights and extra content, ensuring fans can engage with their favourite sports in the way that suit them best.

There will be a range of functionality available at launch, including the delivery of multiple live streams simultaneous and ‘watch from start’ or ‘watch live’ options. The user experience will continue to evolve over time.

While users will require an account to login, sport streaming will be free and supported by advertising – like all great TVNZ+ content. Advertising will be placed mindfully to ensure minimal disruption to the live action.
