Argentina Rugby Championship Squad 2022 – Team to play South Africa

Argentina Rugby Championship Squad 2022

Michael Cheika has made seven changes to his Argentina starting XV for the match against South Africa in Buenos Aires on Saturday.

Jeronimo de la Fuente returns at inside-centre, with Matias Moroni dropping to the bench, while Lucio Cinti is on the wing and Gonzalo Bertranou starts at scrum-half.

Up front, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro and Eduardo Bello come into the front row while Matias Alemanno starts at lock and Juan Martin Gonzalez is given the nod at blindside.

The Pumas have had mixed fortunes in the Rugby Championship this year. They recovered from an opening loss to Australia to beat the Wallabies by a record margin the following week and then notched their first-ever win over the All Blacks on New Zealand soil.

However, they were then hammered 53-3 in their second match against the Kiwis. It will be interesting to see how they fare against the world champion Springboks.

New Zealand 18-25 Argentina

Argentina have beaten the All Blacks on New Zealand soil for the first time ever.

Backing up a record win over Australia in San Juan in round two of this year’s Rugby Championship, the Pumas then beat New Zealand 25-18 in Christchurch.

The Pumas’ resolute defence and the goalkicking of Emiliano Boffelli proved crucial to the triumph, which is only Argentina’s second against the All Blacks in history.

Their first-ever win came two years ago when a three-team Rugby Championship was played in Australia because of the Covid pandemic.

Wing Boffelli kicked 20 points while back-rower Juan Martin Gonzalez also scored a try as Michael Cheika’s Pumas secured a famous victory against the All Blacks and put themselves at the top of the Rugby Championship table.
