#11 Leah Shackley Decommits from Indiana, Commits to NC State (2024-2025)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

After committing to Indiana last November, the #11 ranked recruit in the class of 2024 Leah Shackley has changed her commitment to NC State. Shackley lives in Bedford, Pennsylvania, about a six-hour drive from Raleigh, NC.

The plans you make aren’t always the ones that are meant for you.
With that being said, I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at NC State. I want to thank ever coach on the staff and @kyleponsler for this opportunity! I’m very thankful for my family’s and coaches support during this crazy process. Go Pack🐺❤️

Shackley most recently competed at Y-Nationals where she went four for four winning all of her individual events. She went best times in three of them, swimming a 50.96 100 fly, a 1:51.27 200 back, and a 1:54.63 200 fly. Her 100 fly also made her the #3 swimmer in the 15-16 age group of all time.

Shackley has shown improvement this past season as she has gone best times in all of her primary events this past SCY season:

Times when Committing to IU Times Now
100 back 51.82 50.83
200 back 1:53.45 1:51.27
100 fly 53.06 50.96
200 fly N/A 1:54.63

Most notably, Shackley added the 200 fly to her event lineup this past season as there are no records to her swimming it prior to the 2023 calendar year.

The NC State women were fifth at NCAAs this past season. Shackley’s best times already have the potential to make a huge impact for the Wolfpack at NCAAs. Her best 200 back would have been seventh this past season at NCAAs. In addition, her best 100 back would have been sixth, her best 100 fly 11th, and her best 200 fly 12th.

Shackley will overlap with backstroke Kennedy Noble for two years as Noble just finished up her freshman year. Noble dropped over a second and a half off her 200 backstroke best time during her freshman year as she entered with a 1:51.91 and swam a 1:50.24 to win the ACC title.

Shackley will arrive in fall 2024 along with sprinter Erika Pelaez (#6 in the class),  fellow sprinter Lily Christianson (#7), and IM/breaststroker Katya Ivanov (BOTR).
