UAE have named their squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2022. There is a huge surprise in the squad as Rohan Mustafa has been dropped. He is the highest capped player in the team as he has played 55 matches and scored 984 runs and picked 61 wickets. His omission may prove costly for UAE as we all have seen how destructive Rohan Mustafa can be on a given day.
UAE would be hoping for a better show in T20 World Cup; they were unable to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 which was quite a disappointment. UAE had lost to Hong Kong & Kuwait and was eventually knocked out. UAE would be aware that the conditions in Australia would be completely different than their home conditions.
UAE Selection Committee on Squad
Dr. Tayeb Kamali, the selection Committee Chairman of Emirates Cricket was seen making a statement on the team. “Qualifying to play against top national teams of the world at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup marks a milestone with UAE Cricket’s growing strengths in the T20 format. We extend our deep appreciation to all who have invested their time and efforts as we arrive at this unique moment in Emirates Cricket’s history.”
“We wish our team the very best as they continue to make their mark on international cricket at the ICC T20 World Cup,”
Steep Challenge ahead for UAE
UAE is placed in a precarious group of Sri Lanka, Namibia & Netherlands All these 3 teams are contenders to seal the spots for the main marquee event. UAE will have to pull up their socks and make sure that they are putting up a fight. It would require a helluva of effort to qualify.
UAE doesn’t have that many good fast bowlers as the pitches in Australia would be fast & bouncy. The team can’t rely on spin or slower bowlers to make an impact. It would be interesting to see how long UAE in the absence of Rohan Mustafa and the selectors would be hoping that their decision doesn’t backfire.
