The World of BJJ: What’s Coming Up in October 2021

What’s coming up in the world of BJJ?

We’ve got you covered for all your BJJ-related news and upcoming events for October 2021. Check out what the BJJ world has in store for you!

IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship (7-10 October 2021)

The IBJJF World No-Gi Championships are set to take place from October 7-10 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas.

With this being the first no-gi world championships in which heel hooks are allowed in the brown and black belt divisions, will we see a new generation of world champions? Or are the veterans prepared to deal with the tricky leg lock game that has recently revolutionized the competitive grappling scene?

There are a ton of big names already registered. At the time of this writing, capacity for the event is at 96%, meaning registration will likely fill up before tournament time.

Check out the complete IBBJF calendar for 2021 for more info about other upcoming events.

Subversiv 6 (16 October 2021)

Subervsiv returns with another team tournament that promises to excite.

At Subversiv 5 back in May, Team Atos defeated Team Checkmat in the finals to claim the Subervsiv team title. Will Team Atos be back to defend their team title yet again? Or is there another trio of grapplers who can challenge the defending champions and claim the title for themselves?

Follow the Subersiv Instagram page to stay up to date as they release news about the upcoming event.

FloGrappling WNO: Beatriz Mesquita vs Luiza Monteiro (20 October 2021)

FloGrappling’s Who’s Number One (WNO) returns for what promises to be another epic event. The card will be headlined by two women’s title matches.

For the WNO 125lb belt, ADCC world champion Beatriz Mesquita takes on 3-time IBJJF no-gi world champion Luiza Monteiro.

In the main event, no-gi world champions Ffion Davies and Nathalie Ribeiro will meet for the

WNO 135lb belt.

Check out FloGrappling for more news on this event as the rest of the card is announced.

EUG Promotions #3 (23 October 2021)

Evolve Ur Game (EUG) Promotions is back with what looks like yet another incredible card. This time, it’s an 8-man 155lbs no-gi black belt grand prix. All matches in the one-night tournament will follow the ADCC ruleset with the winner earning $10,000 and the bejeweled EUG belt.

Here’s which athletes are confirmed so far for the 8-man bracket (more entries to come soon):

  •     Diego Pato Oliveira
  •     Ethan Crelinsten
  •     Gabriel Sousa
  •     Gianni Grippo
  •     Joao Mendes
  •     Josh Cisneros

Also on the card will be a number of superfights, ranging from youth and teens all the way up through the coloured belts.

In the first EUG show, Andy Murasaki put the grappling world on notice in his black belt debut. In the second show, Jonatha Alves worked his way through a super tough bracket to claim the title.

Who do you think will leave the third EUG show with $10,000 and a shiny new belt?

Check out the EUG Promotions Instagram page to stay up to date as the final names for the 155lb bracket are released.
