The story behind the leo: Auburn gymnastics debuts the ‘Orange Crush’ leotard

Every week this season Gymnastics Now will be highlighting one NCAA team’s competition leotard and sharing the story behind the design and creation of the garment.

This weeks pick: The Auburn Tigers debut the ‘Orange Crush’ leo

The Auburn Tigers glowed in The Jungle on Friday night, facing off against LSU while sporting a brand new ALL orange competition leotard, appropriately named “Orange Crush”.

The hard fought battle between the two teams of Tigers wasn’t the only thing people were talking about. This bedazzled orange Ozone leotard with a cutout back and statement neckline quickly became another headliner for the evening.

The mastermind and designer behind this leo, Auburn’s Associate Head Coach Sara Carver-Milne, shared the story behind the leo with Gymnastics Now:

“I wanted to give the team something we didn’t already have. While we didn’t have an all-orange competition leotard, there was a lot of skepticism about designing one that would look good on everyone.

“It needed to represent Auburn, so we went with a two-toned tiger stripe that was more subtle, because the tiger stripes themselves are bold. For the back, the inspiration came from a formal gown. This combination allows the leotard to embody courageous elegance.”

Auburn’s floor line up showed off the new leo’s detailing and glow while the athletes raised the bar on the event to earn their highest floor score all season, a 49.650.
