The Sports Archives – Giving Yourself A Mental Health Check-In

If you are the type of person who is go-go-go and has trouble shutting off for a while – you might notice over time you start to feel a little short-tempered. You might start to feel more tired than usual. There might be a whole range of things that bother you.

Aside from taking care of ourselves in a physical sense, we need to make sure that we are doing the best we can for our mental health too. Often mental health can be left to decline for much longer than we would leave a sore ankle or a repeating pain in the back.

Here are a few ways that you can check how you are doing mentally and improve your balance.

Others

There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. We can feel lonely when we have people around us – especially if we aren’t sharing what we are going through with them. Take a look at who you have around you – can you confide and share? Look to make great connections, and try to keep the ones you have healthy.

Good relationships can be one of the things that help us through tough times, and having a shoulder to lean on can make a big difference in our daily lives.

Caring for you

If you always put others before yourself and ignore the things you need – even when your body and mind are crying out for them – you need to find some space. Taking good care of yourself by eating the right food, trying to move every day, drinking enough water, and resting when you need to isn’t just nice – it is essential.

Support

If you are feeling a little off for a day or two, it might be nothing to worry about, but if the times you are feeling low are starting to outweigh the times you are doing well – it is time to do something about it. You can look for top mental health treatment centers in your area and see what type of support you might be able to get.

You can start by talking to friends and family, as being honest with how you feel can help people understand you better – and offer the type of help you might need.

Set goals

From time to time, the same day-in and day-out can begin to stack up thick and fast. And if you start feeling like your routine is more like a rut – start setting other goals. Give yourself things to work towards that can make your day or week more enjoyable. If you have a hobby that you want to try and find room for, or you want to create something – start making those your goals outside your regular work

Calming

Try to find an activity that you find calming and enjoyable; studies show that if you have an activity that makes you feel relaxed and calm – you usually have some of the tools that can help you when it comes to mental health.
