March 31, 2023 — Starting with a bang

This weekend, the girls’ scholastic lacrosse season ramps up with a number of interesting interstate games. Tomorrow at high noon, a Darien (Conn.) side which has is regarded along with the very best will travel to Long Island to take on Manhasset (N.Y.).

But for a concentration of many opponents, go no further than the 30th annual Spring Fling at Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.). The first match window, at 9:30 a.m., sees the host team take on defending VISAA Division I champion, Charlottesville St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va.). At the same time, Washington Georgetown Visitation (D.C.), fresh off beating Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.), will take on a very good Olney Good Counsel (Md.). Visitation will then take on Greenwich (Conn.) Academy in the 1 p.m. window.

I also think that the two Southern teams in this tournament — Milton (Ga.) and Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) will have strong showings. Milton takes on an improving Chantilly Paul VI (Va.) in the 2:45 p.m. window, while Cardinal Gibbons will take on Richmond Collegiate (Va.).

A number of these matches are going to be bellweather matches for the rest of the 2023 season.
