In the red-ball format, Virat Kohli has been struggling with his form in the subcontinent, having scored only 174 runs in his last ten Test innings. He has not been able to score a half-century in any of these innings, which has raised some concerns about his ability to face spin bowlers. Virat Kohli has been dismissed seven times by spinners in these ten innings.

Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik who was present on a talk show commented on how Virat Kohli has always been a good player of spin but his present form displays otherwise. However, he believes that while the stats might say Virat Kohli has struggled against spinners it’s mainly due to variable factors.

“You look back at the time I’m sure he’s a better player of fast bowlers than he started out. Maybe his game against spin has dropped a bit, but that is fine and relatively understandable. You don’t play as many spinners when you travel abroad, you don’t play so much of good spinners, probably you would end up playing in the domestic circuit for longer hours, even if you play in the subcontinent.”

“You can debate about the fact that he doesn’t have played well against spin in the recent past, but he’s a damn good player when it comes to spin bowling, especially fingers spin bowling. The stats do say he’s got out to spin so he needs to work on it.”

With Virat Kohli’s form in question against the spinners, it will be interesting to see the approach the former Indian skipper decides to take heading into the coming fixture. A lot of home fans would be excited to see the local boy perform at his home venue and put an end to the questions thrown his way.
