IND vs AUS: “Coach Rahul Dravid, Captains Rohit Sharma And Hardik Pandya Lost All Faith, Respect In Chetan Sharma”

Former India pace bowler Chetan Sharma has resigned as chairman of the senior selection committee following a television channel sting operation in which he was allegedly heard divulging private information.
Sharma’s remarks apparently did not sit well with the BCCI’s senior management. According to a BCCI source, head coach Rahul Dravid and captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have “lost faith in him” since the sting operation aired on Tuesday, February 14.

In a couple of days, Chetan Sharma’s professional life was completely turned upside down. The former India pacer submitted his letter of resignation to secretary Jay Shah on Friday, who accepted it, ending his second stint as head of the BCCI men’s squad selection committee early.

Sharma had very little choice but to submit his documents, even though BCCI apparently did not publicly request that he do so. Sharma’s status as the chief selector was questioned after he was caught on camera by ZEE Media divulging private information regarding how the Indian squad operated internally.

Chetan Sharma paid the price for being a big mouth- BCCI source

The BCCI top brass apparently did not like Chetan Sharma’s remarks. According to a BCCI source who spoke to news agency PTI, since the “sting operation” was broadcast on February 14 on television, head coach Rahul Dravid and captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya “lost faith in him.”

“Coach Rahul Dravid, captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have completely lost faith in him. He couldn’t have possibly sat across the table along with them for selection committee meetings as he had lost all respect. He paid the price for being a big mouth,” said a BCCI source.

Sharma and the entire selection committee had previously been fired following India’s semi-final elimination from the T20 World Cup in Australia. He reapplied for the position and was reappointed as chairman.

Chetan Sharma played 23 Tests and 65 ODIs for India, taking 61 and 67 wickets respectively.
