Race 7

IOWNA MERC has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fifth-place finish next time out over six furlongs, this after jumping awkwardly, three and a half lengths back from the winner and was immediately rested for 22 weeks, during which time he was gelded. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing second in the latest. From his handy draw two, he should turn in another honest effort today.

KIN is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has also got consistent formlines to her credit, having finished second in her last two outings, the latest over five furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 26-week break. She came five wide into the home straight that day but stayed on well over the closing stages and the form of that race has been franked. She is drawn wide in gate 10, but will get 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid her cause.

CHIEF CONDUCTOR goes for his hat-trick after victories over five furlongs and the latest over 1100M by a half-length, despite jumping awkwardly. The gelding recovered quicky to race into the lead, and then fought off the chasing pack in the dash down to the line. From draw three, he is likely to adopt the same tactics here.

Race 8

FOX FIGHTER is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, 1.7L back from the winner, but it should be noted that he jumped awkwardly in that event and then had to be held up on the home turn, before making good late progress over the closing stages, but only when finding clear a clear passage at the 200M mark. The gelding has a handy draw two and will be having his peak run after returning from an 18-week rest and is trained by ex-SA jockey/trainer David Payne.

TITANIUM POWER tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in third place last time out over 1300M, two lengths back from the winner. He was only run out of it late that day and whilst drawn wide in gate eleven, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. The gelding gets the services of 1.5kg claiming apprentice Zac Lloyd and is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

DRAGONSTONE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over five furlongs, one length behind the winner. He has his first run for his new trainer and returns from a 16-week break, but did finish fourth in his only barrier trial to prove his fitness and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

Race 9

The day’s value bet, DEMOCRACY MANIFEST followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a seventh-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, just over three lengths back from the winner, but he did not act in the heavy going that day and raced three wide without cover. In addition, he was reported to have lost an off-fore shoe. The form of that race has been franked and he will be having his peak run after returning from a 16-week rest and is sure to put his useful draw three to good use.

HEALING OASIS is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she also won her penultimate start, in her case over 1300M and then ended up in fourth spot next time out over seven furlongs, 1.7L adrift of the winner. She raced towards the back of the field that day, but accelerated smartly over the latter stages. She will have to negotiate a wide draw sixteen, but on the plus side, she will get 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and will have her peak run after returning from a 22-week spell.

TAMERLANE missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over seven furlongs when finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, just over two and a half lengths off the winner. He is not drawn much better in gate fourteen, but the gelding will have 1.5kg claiming Zac Lloyd in the irons and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

Race 10

SHIPSHAPE narrowly missed out on completing his hat-trick after wins over seven furlongs and 1300M when finishing second last time out over 1300M, just a short-head behind the winner. He raced just behind the leaders that day and only failed in the shadow of the post to notch up his third career win. The gelding will have to deal with gate nine, but he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card and provide Zac Lloyd with a red-letter day.

HUESCA has consistent formlines to his name and jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner last time out over 1300M, finishing fourth, just under a length and a half back from the winner. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate sixteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

GREEN SHADOWS had finished second in his two runs prior to ending up in sixth place in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just under two and a half lengths behind the victor, but he overraced in the early and middle stages that day and hung in over the latter stages of the race, so he had his excuses. From a kinder gate five, he should be involved in the finish.
