Later this week, the U.S. men’s and women’s national field hockey programs take part in the inaugural Pan American Hockey 5s competition in Jamaica.
The U.S. men’s national 5s side is led by senior outdoor veterans like Ajai Dhadwal (93 caps), Michael Barminski (87 caps), and Tyler Sundeen (81 caps).
The women are led by Linnea Gonzales (37 caps) and Kealsie Robles (27 caps), but they also have recent Syracuse graduate Charlotte de Vries and Michigan goalie Annabel Skubisz.
The U.S. team finds themselves the favorites to sweep gold medals in both the men’s and women’s competitions, seeing as giants like Canada and Argentina have opted to skip the tournament. Still, Trinidad & Tobago has been a great field hockey nation in the Caribbean and will punish any mistake the U.S. team makes.
We’ll see what happens starting Sunday.
