Hockey Squad In The National Men’s And Women’s Hall Subdued The Philippines


The second act of the Round Robin Round, the Men’s and Women’s Hall Hockey Event, the 2023 SEA Games, Phnom Penh, Cambodia which took place at Dinosaur Park Hall, Chroy Changvar saw the National Men’s and Women’s Teams have no problem subduing their opponents, the Philippines.

The National Women’s Team, which went down first, thrashed their opponents 12-0 while the National Men’s Team conceded a goal to beat opponents, 19-0, putting both national teams at the top of the charts.

Head Coach of the Women’s Hall Hockey Team, Mohd Badrul Hisham Osman was pleased with the performance shown by his men and was satisfied that the players managed to correct the team’s weaknesses in the first match.

“Thank God for two wins in a row and every three points is very important. I’m happy that the players played according to what was planned and they showed improvement in today’s match.

“I’m also happy that the players took advantage of every opportunity they had and fixed the mistakes in the first match in addition to trying to give their best.

“We know our main challenger is Thailand, but we will still do our best for the meeting with them tomorrow. We will make some changes for the match with Thailand and we will work to make sure the three points are earned,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head Coach of the Hockey Squad in the National Men’s Hall, Mohd Hanip Che Halim described the difference in goals and the huge score as crucial in the tournament to ensure that anything that is not desired can be avoided.

“Alhamdulillah in the second match we won with a big net but what was important was the full three points that were collected to put Malaysia at the top of the chart.

“Overall I am very satisfied with what the players have shown because every discussion that has been done to correct the weaknesses has been translated into the match and shown such good commitment.

“For today’s action, we took advantage of this match to sharpen the weaknesses seen in yesterday’s match and we also used it in preparation for the main rivals namely Thailand and Indonesia.

“Meeting against Singapore tomorrow, I still hope the players will be able to play well according to plan so that our mission of collecting three points in each match is on track,” he said.

The third match of the round robin round will resume tomorrow with the Men’s Team going down first at 3:15 pm (Malaysian time) against Singapore and followed by the Women’s Team down against the main event, Thailand at 4:30 pm (Malaysian time).
