April 7, 2023 — Preseason Statwatch for 2023, such as it is

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a pretty bare preseason Friday Statwatch. That’s because, aside from Fran Frieri, Reagan O’Brien, and Emma Murphy, there weren’t any underclasswomen to track who had more than 200 goals or assists to end last season. Such is the effect of the global pandemic on the overall accumulation of statistics.

Indeed, about the only active person on either this list or the real-time Daily Statwatch (to the right of these words) is the all-time coaching record of Kathy Jenkins. She had 832 wins coming into this season and has already added five more, and shows no sign of stopping after nearly 50 years of coaching, all at Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.).

We hope to start Friday Statwatch in a couple of weeks once most of the country has had a chance to get a few games in. Until then, a reminder. I hope you can convince your teams, your schools, leagues, or state governing bodies to adopt the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams to enter their information there as well as whichever is your local news site, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

Until then, enjoy the games.
