April 4, 2023 — Top 10 for the week of April 2

Well, after a weekend of games scrambled the expected for many of the best, we’ve been able to cobble together the first of our weekly surveys.

A couple of things to bear in mind: first off, the records for each of these teams are from the close of play on Sunday. Also, we’ll be doing these week by week until the last teams play their final game in mid-June, which usually means Maine, Massachsetts, Minnesota, and Connecticut.

All that said, here’s our first stab at a national Top 10:

1. Darien (Conn.) 1-0
In a message-sending result, the Wave ran out 18-5 winners against Manhasset (N.Y.) in the season opener
2. Glenelg (Md.) Country School 6-0
Dragons had an early 15-5 win over Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.); big game at Washington Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) on Thursday
3. Sykesville Century (Md.) 3-0
Defeated Dulaney (Md.) 12-7 last week and have some tough competition this month
4. Westwood (Mass.) 0-0
Wolverines started the season with interstate foe Canandaigua (N.Y.) Academy yesterday
5. Brooklandville St. Paul’s (Md.) 8-0
Gators won two games on the West Coast and have a showdown at Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) on Thursday
6. Victor (N.Y.) 1-0
The Blue Devils started the season with a 20-3 win over Webster Schroeder (N.Y.) but have a good Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.) side in the second game of the season
7. New Canaan (Conn.) 0-0
Starts the season today against Fairfield Ludlowe (Conn.)
8. Northport (N.Y.) 2-0
Tigers keep on rolling; beat Ronkonkoma Sachem North (N.Y.) last Saturday
9. Rosemont Agnes Irwin (Pa.) 3-0
Big win over public-school state champion Radnor Archbishop Carroll (Pa.)
10. Wantaugh (N.Y.) 4-0
