8:50 pm. Caio Souza BRA PB: 14.566 (6.0, 8.566)

8:49 pm. Illia Kovtun UKR HB: Made it through his routine with no major errors but then flew forward on the dismount and nearly went down to his knees, good job to not put his hands down. 12.866 (5.4, 7.466)

Luka van den Keybus BEL FX: 13.333 (5.3, 8.033)

8:48 pm. Yumin Abbadini ITA HB: 10.100 (5.1, 5.100, -0.1)

8:46 pm. Jake Jarman GBR PB: 14.166 (5.9, 8.266)

Gabriel Burtanete ROU FX: 13.100 (5.2, 8.000, -0.1)

8:44 pm. Carlos Yulo PHI VT: Piked handspring double front half, BEAUTIFUL in the air, but then lands it kind of back on his heels and he runs back out of it a bit wildly, sitting it ultimately. 14.166 (6.0, 8.166)

8:42 pm. Joe Fraser GBR VT: Ugh, sits the handspring double front. Gets his heels down but his hips aren’t in line with his feet, just too far back. 12.833 (5.2, 7.933, -0.3)

Diogo Soares BRA PB: 12.433 (5.1, 7.333)

Lorenzo Casali ITA FX: 12.966 (5.3, 7.666)

8:41 pm. Tang Chia-Hung TWN HB: Big Yamawaki full! Caught some Tkachevs after, clean on most of his swings, and does a full-twisting double layout with a small hop on the landing. 14.066 (5.6, 8.466)

8:40 pm. Zhang Boheng CHN VT: Kaz double with a great landing! 14.900 (5.6, 9.300)

8:39 pm. Lukas Dauser GER HB: Tak full is a little messy and late, Tak half with leg separation, Kovacs was very nice and almost calm? Love that for high bar. Piked Tkachev, some bent elbows on the catch. Arms are better on the straddle Tkachev. Full-twisting double layout, hop. 12.900 (5.3, 7.600)

Joel Plata ESP PB: 12.766 (5.4, 7.366)

8:37 pm. Sofus Heggemsnes NOR FX: 12.766 (4.7, 8.066)

Krisztofer Meszaros HUN HB: 12.833 (5.3, 7.533) – ugh, hate that he’s struggling on this event here

8:36 pm. Asher Hong USA VT: Tsuk full-in, looked like he had it on the landing, chest was pretty low and he was pretty far forward, but he’s SO far forward, he can’t really hold on, ends up taking two giant running lunges out of it. 14.166 (6.0, 8.266, -0.1)

8:35 pm. Brody Malone USA PB: 14.366 (6.0, 8.366)

8:33 pm. Tanigawa Wataru JPN VT: Piked handspring double front half, really deep on the landing, but sticks it with his feet apart! 15.000 (6.0, 9.000) – they give him the pike credit!

Nestor Abad ESP HB: Endo is lovely, Tak half a little short to layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev to piked Tkachev, stalder, Rybalko finished pretty late, Tak opened really nicely into handstand, full-twisting double layout with a step forward. 13.433 (5.3, 8.133)

8:32 pm. Hashimoto Daiki JPN VT: Kaz double, WOW, this is a DREAM compared to the team final, excellent in the air, chest really low on the landing but he’s right down the middle with just a small hop.

8:31 pm. Krisztian Balazs HUN FX: Randi to start, a little short with a hop. Front full to double front, REALLY low, deep and bounces forward, don’t think it was a fall but it was close. Wobbled in the corner before his third pass, hahaha, oh boy. Hit the third pass, I think a 2.5 to front layout if my memory is correct. Double full down the length. Triple full, maybe a hair underrotated but if it was, he covered it up really nicely with a great landing. 12.833 (5.3, 7.633, -0.1)

8:26 pm. Rotation 3 Standings

1. Hashimoto Daiki JPN 42.865
2. Zhang Boheng CHN 42.366

4. Tanigawa Wataru JPN 41.865
5. Lukas Dauser GER 41.832
6. Asher Hong USA 41.799
7. Illia Kovtun UKR 41.566
8. Luka van den Keybus BEL 41.565

8:23 pm. Yumin Abbadini ITA PB: Really arched on his mount, cleans up in the next couple of elements, really nice press to handstand, I think that was out of an L sit, then only made it about halfway to handstand out of the Healy, had to press up from almost a pike. Also a little muscle up on the handstand on the single rail, but good fight in him, double pike was good. 13.066 (5.3, 7.766)

8:22 pm. Joe Fraser GBR SR: Wasn’t typing at the beginning of this, got the salto swings out to a straddle planche well, clean press to handstand, front giant to handstand was a little short but he gets there in the end, back giant to handstand is a little better, double double with a lunge back. 13.600 (5.6, 8.000)

Tang Chia-Hung TWN PB: 13.366 (4.9, 8.466)

8:20 pm. Luka van den Keybus BEL HB: Yamawaki to Endo full, a little late but not too bad, stalder hop 1.5 finished at horizontal, Tak, some front giants, hop full, and a full-twisting double layout, stuck! Not the most difficult high-flying set but really nice work. 13.366 (5.4, 7.966)

8:19 pm. Zhang Boheng CHN SR: Inverted pike up to iron cross, a little shaky in his hips, swings through to planche, great shape there. Pike swing through to maltese, rolls through to iron cross, inverted pike with a front pike through to iron cross, inverted pike swith a front giant to handstand, back giant to handstand swinging a bit, and a double double with a step back. 14.100 (6.2, 7.900)

Caio Souza BRA VT: 12.700 (5.2, 7.800, -0.3) – UGHHHHH

Gabriel Burtanete ROU HB: 12.600 (4.5, 8.100)

8:18 pm. Carlos Yulo’s rings score just went from a 13.5 to a 13.8.

8:17 pm. Lukas Dauser GER PB: All of the pirouettes at the start were lovely, only slightly muscled one, good work on transitions between the bars in the middle of his set, one-arm pirouette, perfect handstand out of a half, and then a double front half, great landing. Beautiful! 15.166 (6.6, 8.566)

Lorenzo Casali ITA HB: 12.866 (5.1, 7.766)

8:14 pm. Asher Hong USA SR: Rolls through to iron cross at the start, down to inverted pike, front giant to handstand, maybe a hair short but SO steady and clean, salto swings through to maltese, inverted hang out to maltese, inverted hang into a back giant up to handstand, also GREAT there, he’s not moving AT ALL. Next one is a little less tight but he looks excellent, double double layout, some pike form in the air, STUCK! Wow, this was really good as a whole. 13.833 (5.9, 7.933)

Krisztofer Meszaros HUN PB: 14.066 (5.9, 8.166)

8:13 pm. Jake Jarman GBR VT: Handspring double front half, some form in the air and a lunge back, but this was solid. 14.800 (5.6, 9.200)

Sofus Heggemsnes NOR HB: 12.933 (4.8, 8.133)

8:11 pm. Tanigawa Wataru JPN SR: Inverted pike pressed out to maltese, inverted pike to planche, back giant up to handstand, arched and swaying a bit, tucked and piked swinging saltos to iron cross, rolls through to iron cross, inverted pike to front giant, doesn’t quite make it to handstand ever, double double with a big step back. A bit messy in this but won’t be crushingly bad in terms of a score. 13.833 (6.0, 7.833)

Krisztian Balazs HUN HB: 13.800 (5.7, 8.100)

Diogo Soares BRA VT: 14.266 (4.8, 9.466)

8:10 pm. Nestor Abad ESP PB: Wasn’t typing but this was a hit routine, had a double front dismount with a step forward. 14.200 (5.8, 8.400)

Joel Plata ESP VT: 14.700 (5.6, 9.100)

8:08 pm. Hashimoto Daiki JPN SR: Salto swings through to iron cross, really fluid there. Rolls through to iron cross. Inverted pike to inverted handstand, swings up to handstand, arches a bit, double double with a small hop. I missed some stuff at the beginning but for him on this event it looked good to my eyes. 13.866 (5.8, 8.066)

Illia Kovtun UKR PB: 14.600 (6.6, 8.000)

8:07 pm. Brody Malone USA VT: Ooh, he’s waking up today! Kaz 1.5, excellent in the air, lands with feet apart and a hop forward. 14.500 (5.2, 9.300)

Jossimar Calvo COL HB: 13.500 (5.7, 7.800)

8:05 pm. Casimir Schmidt NED VT: Kaz 1.5, really strong in the air until the knee bend in the second part of the twist, step to the side, OOB, but super strong overall. 14.233 (5.2, 9.133, -0.1)

8:04 pm. Carlos Yulo PHI SR: Maltese to inverted hang, back out to maltese, to hang again, front giant up to inverted cross, then salto pikes to iron cross, rolls through to iron cross, inverted hang, back giant ends up really short and arched in handstand, and a double double with a small hop. 13.500 (5.7, 7.800)

8:03 pm. Finishing the touch for rotation three now!

8:01 pm. Just went back and saw a replay of Krisztian Balazs on p-bars while the third rotation touch was happening, I love him, very lovely and difficult work from him today!

7:59 pm. Rotation 2 Standings

1. Hashimoto Daiki JPN 28.999
2. Lorenzo Casali ITA 28.566
3. Zhang Boheng CHN 28.266
4. Luka van den Keybus BEL 28.199
5. Tanigawa Wataru JPN 28.032
6. Asher Hong USA 27.966
7. Gabriel Burtanete ROU 27.900
8. Sofus Heggemsnes NOR 27.766

7:57 pm. Gabriel Burtanete ROU PB: Short on a couple of handstands at the beginning, just takes a second to get them fully up, Bhavsar, swings up to L sit pressed to handstand, good work on the Tippelt as well, double pike, deep landing with a lunge forward. 13.400 (5.3, 8.100)

7:56 pm. Zhang Boheng CHN PH: Looked like he hit a foot on the horse coming down from a scissor to handstand but it wasn’t anything detrimental, moves well into his circle work, Russians at the end of the horse had nice extension, beautiful into the dismount. This was great.

Jake Jarman GBR SR: 13.000 (4.7, 8.300)

Lorenzo Casali ITA PB: 14.333 (5.8, 8.533)

7:55 pm. Diogo Soares BRA SR: 12.900 (4.5, 8.400)

Tang Chia-Hung TWN VT: 14.000 (4.8, 9.200)

7:52 pm. Asher Hong USA PH: Wasn’t really typing for this but this was a great routine, only really rushed into the dismount after some split legs going up into handstand, but the rest was really strong for him! Really impressed that he came in and hit all three sets here. 13.700 (5.6, 8.100)

7:51 pm. Sofus Heggemsnes NOR PB: Pirouettes at the start were mostly good, just slight hip adjustments in one, arched over a cast to handstand, full-in dismount, small step to the side. Not a ton of difficulty in the interior but that was a solid set! 13.300 (4.8, 8.500)

7:50 pm. Tanigawa Wataru JPN PH: Scissors to handstand have a little adjustment up, circles, then a second scissors to handstand, better on this one, travels in Russians, really smooth into the pirouette into the dismount. Good overall! 13.766 (5.9, 7.866)

7:48 pm. Yumin Abbadini ITA VT: Kaz full, mostly clean in the air, chest forward and a step on the landing.

Brody Malone USA SR: 13.666 (5.6, 8.066)

7:46 pm. Hashimoto Daiki JPN PH: Flairs right off the bat, full turn in flairs went well, scissors to handstand, maybe a hair short, circles on the single handle, then transitions to the horse, Russians on the handle, and then across the horse, some hip bend there, goes into flairs to travel back and forth, took him a second to get his legs under control into the handstand for the dismount, but this was a great routine overall. 14.333 (6.0, 8.333)

Lukas Dauser GER VT: 13.766 (4.8, 8.966)

7:45 pm. Jossimar Calvo COL PB: Happened to look over just as he was crashing down, not sure what happened, but it looked wild. Back on for a Tippelt, kinda sat it before going into handstand. Bhavsar was better. Full-in off the end of the apparatus, good landing. 12.366 (6.0, 6.366)

Casimir Schmidt NED SR: 13.800 (5.5, 8.300)

Krisztofer Meszaros HUN VT: 13.700 (4.8, 9.200, -0.3)

Luka van den Keybus BEL PB: 14.066 (6.0, 8.066)

7:42 pm. Carlos Yulo PHI PH: Scissors to handstand, back down to scissors into circles, moves well into his flairs, they look really nice tonight, travels in circles with no major breaks, just slight hips throughout, NOOOO, then dropped too low and hit the table, had to pause for a second before starting again, so he doesn’t come off but still a big mistake. Finishes after that with no trouble. 11.900 (5.0, 6.900)

7:41 pm. Yumin Abbadini ITA PB: 13.866 (4.8, 9.066)

Illia Kovtun UKR VT: 14.300 (5.2, 9.100)

Caio Souza BRA SR: 13.700 (5.8, 7.900)

7:38 pm. Joe Fraser GBR PH: Scissors to handstand were clean, back down and up, right into his Russians between the handles, circles on both then moves to one, legs fly open and this time he can’t fight, ends up flying right off. Ugh, so sad he just hasn’t been able to make this apparatus work for him at worlds. Back on for circles again, Russians on the single handle, travels in Russians, a little iffy in places but he’s working through it, goes well into the dismount. THIS is what I wish he would’ve done last night, with the early fall and then coming back after a quick mental break, instead of fighting and fighting and fighting only to ultimately fall. Not that it matters, I guess, since they won bronze anyway! But it was close and that could have helped extend the gap a bit over other teams. 13.166 (6.1, 7.066)

7:34 pm. Rotation 1 Standings

1. Carlos Yulo PHI 15.166
2. Hashimoto Daiki JPN 14.666
3. Burtanete Gabriel ROU 14.500
4. Sofus Heggemsnes NOR 14.466
5. Jossimar Calvo COL 14.400
6. Tanigawa Wataru JPN 14.266
– Asher Hong USA 14.266
8. Lorenzo Casali ITA 14.233

7:31 pm. Diogo Soares BRA PH: Scissors through to his circles, Busnari down right into flairs, goes across the horse in Russians, little form breaks into the dismount that cause him to kind of chuck his way through, but a very nice hit for him!

7:29 pm. Asher Hong USA FX: Front full to piked double front, big step forward, ends up OOB. Double double layout with a small slide back. Front tuck full to double front with a big hop forward. Flairs and then a Japanese press for his strength work, nothing really I could see there. 2.5 to front layout, and then wraps things up with a triple full, stuck! Too bad about the landings at the very beginning but he cleaned up nice. 14.266 (6.0, 8.366, -0.1)

Lukas Dauser GER SR: 12.900 (5.0, 7.900)

7:28 pm. Joel Plata ESP PH: Oof, was just about to say he was getting off to a good start on his circles on the single pommel but looked like he missed a hand on the transition down to the horse. Back on, had a significant form break with some leg form early on but then cleaned up for the rest to hit into the dismount. 11.533 (4.7, 6.833)

7:26 pm. Tanigawa Wataru JPN FX: I missed his first pass, did something into a front layout, landing was good, and then a double double, stuck! Solid piked double front. Double full, and a 2.5 to front full, both strong. Arabian double front half-out with a great landing! 14.266 (5.7, 8.566)

Krisztofer Meszaros HUN SR: 13.066 (4.4, 8.666)

Lorenzo Casali ITA VT: Kaz double, a bit crunched down on the landing, step off the mat OOB. 14.233 (5.6, 8.733, -0.1)

7:24 pm. Brody Malone USA PH: Starts out well enough, there’s a lot of talk about the judges not wanting to credit his Mikulak but I don’t know nearly enough about pommels to understand why (and apparently his coaches don’t get it either, so I guess an explanation would be nice). Either way, it’s a hit, nothing super off to me here, and looked like he mostly had a good rhythm going through. 13.766 (5.8, 7.966)

7:22 pm. Hashimoto Daiki JPN FX: Triple double, a little deep but I think the best landing on this so far in terms of chest position and landing in general? Good double double after. 1.5 to randi, a little short, small movement forward. Double full down the side, flared and stuck. 2.5 went a little low and long but gets it into the front layout. Triple full with a hop back, feet apart. Good work. 14.666 (6.0, 8.666)

Nestor Abad ESP SR: 13.233 (5.3, 7.933)

Sofus Heggemsnes NOR VT: Kaz 1.5, slight knees, but a great landing, tiny bounce back. 14.466 (5.2, 9.266)

7:20 pm. Casimir Schmidt NED PH: Scissors work at the beginning was good, straddled a bit in a few of his circles at the beginning, a little slow into the Busnari but goes through it, legs split more on the circles near the end, and gets the dismount down without a hitch. 12.733 (5.7, 7.033)

7:18 pm. Carlos Yulo PHI FX: 2.5 to piked double front, and then a double double layout, twists SO fast, does a layout-in double full-out so he HAS to twist fast, but still – awesome. Great landing. Front full to randi, solid landing. Massive triple full down the side. 1.5 to front double full, baby hop. Sticks the 3.5!!!! 15.166 (6.4, 8.766)

Illia Kovtun UKR SR: 12.666 (4.8, 7.866)

Jossimar Calvo COL VT: Yurchenko 2.5, mostly strong, good landing! 14.400 (5.2, 9.200)

7:16 pm. Caio Souza BRA PH: Glad he qualified high enough to get this out of the way first! Scissors with no major problems, Russians, transitions between levels well, Russians across the horse and then at the end, wide-arm travel, rushes a little into the last circle up into the dismount, but this is a hit! 12.766 (4.9, 7.866)

7:14 pm. Joe Fraser GBR FX: Front layout to piked double front, strong! Double double, chest forward and a lunge. 2.5 to rudi, goes short into the latter and his form is all over the place, lands short. Double full is good. Strong on the arabian double front. Full-in ends a bit short with a step forward. 13.866 (5.7, 8.166)

Luka van den Keybus BEL VT: Yurchenko 2.5, lands it deep with a hop back, amazing save from sitting it! 14.133 (5.2, 9.033, -0.1)

7:13 pm. Jake Jarman GBR PH: Wasn’t typing but this was a ridiculously good routine for him?! Everything looked pretty tidy and fluid, rhythm was on tonight, no struggles into the dismount, wow! 13.333 (5.1, 8.233)

Gabriel Burtanete ROU VT: 14.500 (5.6, 9.000, -0.1)

Tang Chia-Hung TWN SR: 13.366 (5.4, 7.966)

7:11 pm. Zhang Boheng CHN FX: Front full to piked double front is good, hit with a tiny hop forward. I missed the beginning of the second pass, did it into a front layout, I’m gonna guess 2.5? And then had a randi, chest a little hunched over. Double full side pass was solid. Front double full to barani. Triple full, feet apart and a hop back on the landing. 14.033 (5.8, 8.233)

7:06 pm. And now, on with the touch warmup.

7:01 pm. Athletes are marching out now!

6:59 pm. A little note to start off tonight…Adem Asil (big sigh) and Ryu Sunghyun have withdrawn, with Nestor Abad and Krisztofer Meszaros going in their places.

Abad and Meszaros were initially the third and fourth reserves for the finals, but both Egyptian men (Omar Mohamed and Mohamed Afify) withdrew. Most small programs can’t afford to keep teams at events like worlds through to the end and will leave after qualifications, only extending stays for athletes who make finals, so I assume that’s why they’re both out. Sad, their whole team was fantastic in quals.
