Today is the Centenary of Emil Zatopek, the greatest distance runner in our sport’s history. In 1952, Emil Zatopek won the 10,000m, and the 5,000m, and the marathon. As Zatopek entered the stadium, the crowd had just finished cheering the gold of his lovely wife, Daniela, who had just won the javelin. Before Zatopek’s Olympic races, he would greet his competitors in their native language at the starting line.

Emil Zatopek died in 1999, at the age of 78. His wife, Daniela died just this year, at the age of 97 on March 15, 2022. The Czech Republic celebrated the Zatopek’s today, 19 September in their country.

Today’s workout is a warm-up, then, 45-55 minutes easy, with 6 x 150-meter stride outs, then a nice slow cooldown.
