The United States Bowling Congress released a new research report on string pinsetters and the USBC Equipment Specifications Committee has approved final specifications based on the research. USBC will certify string pinsetters and string pin bowling as an independent category of equipment and competition effective August 1, 2023. The final specifications reduce the string length to a minimum of 54 inches.

Some initial feedback from bowlers on this news…

As a 200+ avg bowler for 30+ years, I will quit bowling before using string pins.

I’ve never bowled with string pins so I don’t really have an opinion. I can’t knock it till I try it. However, my gut says that if everyone in an event is bowling on the same lanes, then it shouldn’t matter.

Having already seen one major college event winner determined due to the strings tangling each other just no. I will quit before I bowl string.
