Twin Cities looking to secure bid for 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minnesota governor Tim Walz might have accidentally revealed that the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials are heading to the Twin Cities in a social media post, but both USA Gymnastics and Minnesota Sports & Events – the regional sports commission in charge of the bid – are saying woah there buddy.

Walz seemingly dropped the announcement on his social media channels Wednesday morning, sharing a photo with reigning Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee.

“Minnesota athletes like [Sunisa Lee] are writing sports history – and we’re working to keep that winning streak going by bringing sports like the gymnastics Olympic trials to the Twin Cities.

“Thank you Suni and [MNSE] for your work to get this done.”

The MNSE quote tweeted the post saying, “It’s not final yet. Our team is working hard to secure the Olympics trials for Minnesota. Thank you [Governor Tim Walz] and the Minnesota Legislature for the support for MNSE and our work!”

USA Gymnastics responded to Gymnastics Now’s request for comment, saying, “We do not have an announcement to make at this time.”

St. Louis, Missouri, which hosted trials in 2021, and Omaha, Nebraska, have also made their bids public.
