She will enjoy the drop back to the minimum trip and has plenty of scope. Keagan de Melo takes the ride and with a bit of luck, she can improve to win.

PATON’S TEARS has some decent recent form lines to her credit. She was slow into stride over this distance at Turffontein last time, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. The daughter of Coup De Grace takes a drop in class and if suited to the polytrack, she can return to winning ways.
Race 5: WILLIAM RUFUS (3)
Jockey: K de Melo – Trainer: D Kannemeyer
WILLIAM RUFUS raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish 1.1 lengths behind PARMENION. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He jumps from a good draw of three and can notch up his third career victory.

PURPLE OPERATOR stayed on when fifth over 1000m on the turf last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has won twice and finished second twice from five starts over this C&D. The son of Captain Of All jumps from pole position and is the horse to beat.

PETIT VERDOT was her own worst enemy over 1200m on this course last time as she over raced in the early stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of What A Winter tries the mile and if Serino Moodley is able to switch her off early, she may be the one to beat in weaker company.
