EHL: Maddie Hinch Returns To EHL Action

STAR GOALIE MADDIE HINCH JOINS EHL COMMS TEAM

Three-time FIH Goalkeeper of the Year Maddie Hinch will join the commentary team for the ABN AMRO EHL FINAL8 which runs from April 6-10 in the Wagener Stadium.

It will be her second outing in the commentary booth for the EHL having previously joined Nick Irvine and Simon Mason remotely for the Covid-shortened FINAL4 in 2021.

This time, the Olympic gold medalist will be in situ at the event hosted in Pinoké and will bring her expert insights from her experience of playing in the Hoofdklasse with SCHC and, this season, with Tilburg.

“Voice of the EHL” Nick and Simon will be well known to hockey followers of the EHL with the former set to commentate on his 15th finals week of the world’s premier club hockey competition.

“I know just how much we are all looking forward to Pinoké’s first hosting of the EHL over Easter in the fabulous Wagener Stadium Netherlands.“ said Nick Irvine.

“Having Maddie on board for commentary is a real boon for our commentary team. I have worked with her before at the European Club Cup in Surbiton in 2018 and then in that strange Covid season in 2021 where she brings her keen insight along with a lovely, relaxed humour which works so well on air.

“I think all who watch hockey on their screens appreciate having contrasting voices and views and I am personally delighted that Maddie will be sharing her knowledge of and passion for the game with us all.”

It comes in the week Maddie announced her retirement from the international game following a glittering career, capped by Olympic gold in 2016 where she excelled in the shoot-out.

That followed a similar success in the European Championships in 2015. Her consistency was remarkable as she was named on the shortlist for the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year from 2014 – when the award was introduced – to 2018 and then again was on the list for 2020/21.

During her stellar playing career – and through her MH1 coaching clinics – Maddie has built up quite a following of young hockey fans and we all hope that many of them will want to hear from her and join us all  at the EHL from Pinoké.

Every match will be broadcast live from the event via a range of outlets. We will post the full list of broadcast options next week.
