Race 5

FALL FOR CINDY followed up her penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fourth place finish next time out when stepping up to a mile, just under four lengths back from the winner, but she was crowded shortly after the start and then only saw daylight at the 300M mark, before finishing off her race well, so she had her excuses. She gets gate five and will get a set of blinkers fitted for the first time. If these have the desired effect, she should be a big runner here and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

ARALE also won her penultimate run over seven furlongs and then finished fifth next time out over the same journey, one and a half lengths behind the winner, but she was inconvenienced at the 150M mark that day. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and will get 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd. From draw six, she is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

CABACA is drawn one outside the latter and put her disappointing penultimate run behind her when finishing sixth last time out over seven furlongs, just under a length back from the winner. She made good late progress in that contest and if able to confirm that last effort, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

BUILLT has cracked pole position and had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over seven furlongs, albeit by just a head. He was returning from a 17 week rest that day and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding came three wide into the home straight, striking the front at the 125M mark and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He takes on stronger here, but with James McDonald in the saddle, he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and could well be up to the task at hand.

SEMANA is a three year old filly taking on the boys, but she also won her latest outing, but in her case, over six furlongs by one and a half lengths. She jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, but then stayed on well over the closing stages. She will have to negotiate draw nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

CLEAR CHOICE goes for his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over 1500M by a head and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. The gelding came five wide into the home stretch on that occasion, but finished strongly over the latter stages. He faces a wide gate ten, but on the plus side, he will get 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

PRINCE INVINCIBLE is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1100M, beaten just a short-head. He jumped awkwardly, but recovered quicky to race just behind the leaders, before accelerating smartly in the home straight, only to be snared in the shadow of the post. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and from his useful gate four, he should turn in another honest performance today.

COMMAND APPROVED missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over five furlongs when finishing third over the same sprint trip, three lengths adrift of the victor and was immediately rested for 12 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. The gelding is drawn wide in gate thirteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

TUCSON VALLEY is drawn one inside the latter and is a five year old mare taking on males, but her last three runs have yielded two seconds and a third place finish, the latest a second over five furlongs, just a length off the winner. She was however hampered at the 400M mark and then bumped at the 200M pole and was promoted to second spot after a successful objection against the original second place finisher was upheld.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, OAKFIELD TWILIGHT made solid improvement to win his last start over 1300M by two and a half lengths when going from gun to tape and the form of that race has been franked. He has pulled gate six and a quick double is very much on the cards.

CEASEFIRE has finished second in his last two starts, the latest over six furlongs where he was beaten a neck. He raced just behind the leader that day, but was carried wide into the home straight, so can be considered an unlucky loser. He will have to deal with a wide draw fifteen, but does have his peak run after returning from a 26 week spell.

MONEY FROM THE SKY has an even wider gate eighteen out of twenty, but he has consistent formlines to his name, finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, 1.3L back from the winner, when returning from a 23 week break. He did come five wide into the home straight in that event which did not help his cause and with better luck in running today, he should be included in all bets.
