Race 5

QUEENMAKER is a four year old filly taking on the boys and had solid form prior to finishing eleventh last time out over 1900M, just over ten and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was in a Group 3 event. She jumped awkwardly that day and was also bumped shortly after the start, so she had her excuses. She will have to negotiate draw nine, but she is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

XTRAREVZ followed up his penultimate run victory over ten furlongs with a second place finish next time out over the same journey, just a neck back from the winner, but he came three wide into the home straight that day, striking the front at the 350M mark, before being bumped at the 300M pole. The gelding is drawn one outside the top choice and has finished fourth in a subsequent barrier trial.

SIZZLER also won his penultimate start, but in his case over 1500M and was then demoted into fifth place last time out over a mile when shifting out over the final 100m causing interference to another runner, but just 0.8L back from the winner. He is drawn out one wider than the latter, but should not be easily overlooked.

Race 6

WARBY had his consistency rewarded with a length and a half victory last time out over 1300M, despite being crowded at the start and coming four wide approaching the home straight. He delivered a powerful finish to win his race going away and, on that effort, he could well chalk up a quick double. He gets a handy draw two and will be having his peak run after returning from a 20 week break.

FLYING DESTINY has finished second in his last two starts, the latest over 1300M when grabbed in the shadow of the post for a short-head defeat. He attracted plenty of betting support that day, but lost a length at the start and came three wide into the home stretch, before hanging in over the closing stages, so he could be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding has cracked pole position and from pole position, he will be hoping to make amends today. He gets the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

CABLE TIE has only had the three runs to date, winning over 1100M on debut, then finishing a close up seventh in his penultimate start over six furlongs, before ending up in sixth spot last time out over the same six furlongs sprint, just under two lengths adrift of the victor. The form of that last contest has been franked and from his useful draw three, he should be included in all bets.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, WRATHFUL goes for his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over 1500M by 2.3l, notwithstanding being slow away and coming three wide into the home straight. He returns from a 20 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and whilst he does have a wideish draw eight, the trio is very much on the cards.

THE EMPIRE has consistent formlines to his name and only saw daylight at the 350M mark before finishing well to just fail to overhaul the victor last time out over 1300M, conceding defeat by a short-head. He has a cozy gate three and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. He looks the immediate danger to the top pick.

SUPER is seldom far off the action, finishing sixth last time out over six furlongs, just over a length and a half back from the winner, but he was hampered early in the home straight that day. He is drawn one outside the latter, but has Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons to aid his cause and he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

CAPPELLETTI showed plenty of toe to win his maiden race last time out over six furlongs by one and a half lengths. He takes on stronger here and is drawn wide in gate eleven, but he has his peak run after returning from an eleven week rest and he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

PASSISTAS is a five year old mare taking on males, but she won over six furlongs three runs back, then finished second in her penultimate start over the same sprint trip, before ending up in eighth place last time out over six furlongs, just under three and a half lengths behind the winner, but she did come four wide into the home stretch that day and was reported to be coughing post-race, so that effort is best ignored. She resumes after a 15 week rest, but has had the two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. From her handy draw four, she should give the boys a good run for their money.

TIME FOR VICTORY had finished second in his two runs prior to winning his latest outing over five furlongs by a half length, when returning from a 16 week rest. The gelding was slow away in that event, but recovered quicky to race just behind the leaders, before accelerating smartly to mow down the leaders just short of the wire. He faces a wide draw fifteen, but he should be able to use his early gate speed to shift across without expending too much gas.
