The 2023 Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championships are set for Friday, May 26 – Sunday, May 28 in Medellin, Colombia.
Pan Ams is particularly important this year as it also serves as a qualification competition for UPAG nations for the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, and the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Those qualifiers will be determined during the qualification portion of the competition (Days 1 & 2), not team finals (Day 3).
The following are the quota spots available at Pan Ams to qualify to worlds: two MAG teams, three WAG teams, six MAG all-arounders, 11 WAG all-arounders. The following teams have already qualified teams to 2023 worlds based off their performance at 2022 worlds and cannot qualify any additional individuals: USA and Brazil (MAG), USA, Canada, and Brazil (WAG).
The U.S. men’s and women’s teams were selected during their respective camps a few weeks ago.
The men’s team consists of 2020 Olympians Yul Moldauer (5280) and Shane Wiskus (EVO), Stanford’s Curran Phillips and Khoi Young, as well as 2023 NCAA all-around silver medalist Taylor Christopulos (Nebraska). Five-time world team member Donnell Whittenburg (Salto) is serving as the traveling alternate.
The women’s team consists of three World Champions Centre athletes: Joscelyn Roberson, Zoe Miller, and Tiana Sumanasekera, as well as Nola Matthews (Airborne) and Addison Fatta (Prestige). Madray Johnson (WOGA) is the traveling alternate.
Note: On Thursday, May 25, USA Gymnastics announced Miller sustained a concussion during training at Pan Ams and has entered concussion protocol. Miller later shared a statement saying, “Can’t wait to support my teammates and watch them shine this weekend,” implying that she will be sidelined for the competition and, therefore, replaced by Johnson.
This is the continental championships for North, Central, and South America, so countries from those regions will be in attendance. Other names to watch for include former U.S. gymnast Sydney Barros, who is now representing Puerto Rico, and Lynnzee Brown, who is now representing Haiti.

Award ceremonies for all-around and apparatus finals will follow the conclusion of qualification competition on Friday (MAG) and Saturday (WAG). The team award ceremonies will take place following those finals on Sunday.
