Race 4

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. A 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could however fight out the finish and complete the exacta, with REALLY SERIOUS being the narrow top choice. She is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over seven furlongs, just a length and a half back from the winner. She returns from a 21-week rest, but she has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in both. She will also be having her first run for her new trainer and if fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here. In addition, she gets a handy draw three and will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

MATRONYMIC went from jump to wire when putting 3.8L between herself and the opposition to win her maiden race last time out over six furlongs. She takes on stronger here, but from gate six, she may well be up to the task at hand.

JOHNNY DASH has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when sixth over six furlongs, 3.8L behind the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He did shift out at the top of the home straight that day and gets a set of blinkers re-fitted for today’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here. The gelding has a wideish draw eight, but he will be having his peak run after returning from a 17-week break.

Race 5

ROMEO’S CHOICE has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just a short-head back from the winner, but he was slow away that day and race three wide throughout and came the widest of them all into the home stretch, before finishing off his race well. He will have to deal with a wideish draw eight, but he should be doing his best work late and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

FLASHING STEEL showed solid improvement to finish second in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just a head off the victor, despite being hampered at the start and hanging in down the home straight. He jumps from gate six and will be having his peak run after a 12-week rest and will also have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. He looks to be the immediate danger to the top pick.

SENNAPROST is drawn one inside the latter and also won his penultimate start over six furlongs. He renews his rivalry with the top choice after ending up in third place in the same race mentioned above, 1.9L behind the winner. The gelding did race three wide in that event and he does meet the top pick on 1kg better terms at today’s weights, but whilst that should bring them closer together, it may not be enough for the tables to be turned and he may have to settle for the same result.

Race 6

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, LALAGUNA may well prove to be the best. She is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she was hampered at the 800M mark, but still stayed on well to finish third last time out over six furlongs, 2.2L back from the winner. She jumps from gate six, and should give the boys a good run for their money.

JOYRIDER jumped awkwardly when finishing fourth in his latest outing over seven furlongs, four and a half lengths behind the victor, but the form of that race has been franked. He has his peak run after returning from an 11-week rest, has a handy draw three and will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

DARK VADOR was returning from a 23-week spell when coming three wide into the home straight before battling all the way down to the wire to finish second last time out over 1300M, three lengths adrift of the winner. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but he should turn in another positive effort today.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, CHAIRMAN’S LIST had his consistency rewarded with his third career victory last time out over seven furlongs by one and a half lengths. He sat second before striking the front at the entrance to the home straight and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The form of that race has been franked and although drawn wideish in gate eight, he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back for the services of his claiming apprentice.

PORT DOUGLAS goes for his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over a mile by 2.8L. He kicked clear at the top of the home straight and then held on courageously. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw twelve, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SNAPPY JIM won his last start over seven furlongs by a half-length, notwithstanding having to check at the 50M pole. He has not fared too much better with his draw, one inside the latter, but he is also a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas and should be included in all bets.
