Race 7

FLOATING has consistent formlines to his name and hung in from the 600M mark when finishing third last time out over seven furlongs, just over a length and a half behind the winner. He has a handy draw two and will be having his peak run after returning from a 15 week rest.

Two four year old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to PODIUM QUEEN who is seldom far off the action and although recorded as finishing sixth last time out over a mile, she was just 1.8L back from the winner. Those runs were in New Zealand and she now has her first start in Australia since joining the powerful Chris Waller yard, but she has had a barrier trial to showcase her ability. From a useful gate four, she should turn in another honest performance today.

NEWLEY WED won over this c&d three runs back and then finished fifth over the same c&d in her penultimate run, before ending up in third spot last time out over seven furlongs, 0.8L back from the winner, when returning from an 18 week break. She has a wideish draw eight, but on the plus side, she will get 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd. In addition, she gets cheek pieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she should be a big runner here.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, DEMIANA finished seventh last time out over seven furlongs, just over two lengths off the victor, but she raced three wide without cover that day and was forced even wide into the home straight. The form of that race has been franked and she has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. She gets a cozy gate three and will have her peak run after returning from a 10 week absence.

SONORA missed out on her hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and 1300M when finishing sixth last time out over six furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and from draw five, she is likely to attempt similar tactics today. She has finished fourth in a subsequent barrier trial, has pulled draw five and will have 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

FRUMOS is the stable companion to the top choice who followed up her penultimate run victory over 1500M with a fast finishing fourth place finish next time out over seven furlongs, 1.2L back from the winner and was immediately rested for 14 weeks. She returns here after having had the benefit of two barrier trials and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve, she should be doing her best work late and makes a solid back-up for the Chris Waller yard.

Race 9

DEMOCRACY MANIFEST has won two of his last three starts and finished third in the other, the latest victory coming over six furlongs by two lengths, this despite being bumped shortly after the start. He was returning from a 16 week rest that day and struck the front at the 130M mark to win going away. The form of that race has also been franked and from gate seven, he could give the trainer/jockey combination of Chris Waller/Joe Moreira a quick double in the day’s Jackpot and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

COAL CRUSHER has consistent formlines to his credit and overraced in the front when finishing fourth in his latest outing over six furlongs, 1.7L behind the winner. The gelding has a kinder draw four and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

WILD PLANET was returning from an 18 week absence when finishing fifth last time out over six furlongs, just under three and a half lengths back from the winner, but that was in a Group 3 event and he had nothing go his way that day. The gelding jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner and then had to be eased shortly thereafter. He has pulled a handy gate two and should be involved in the finish.

Race 10

HUESCA won over this distance three runs back, then finished fourth over 1100M in his penultimate start over 1100M, before ending up in second spot last time out over today’s sprint trip, just a neck behind the winner. He jumped awkwardly and raced three wide without cover, before coming four wide into the home stretch, but still managed to stay on well over the closing stages. The gelding jumps from gate three and looks to be the one to side with here.

EXCELLADUS goes for his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over 1100M, albeit by just a short-head and for his new trainer. He hit the front at the 200M pole and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding is drawn in gate six and the trio is very much on the cards.

ROBUSTO 3s drawn one outside the latter and finished sixth in his latest outing over seven furlongs, two and a half lengths behind the winner, but it should be noted that he had to be held up between the 400M and 300M mark and then bumped another runner at the 300M pole and was also reported to have lost a near-hind shoe. In addition, his jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight. The gelding has his first run since an 18 week break, but did finish fourth in his only barrier trial to prove his fitness.
