Race 5: DARK TIDE (9)
Race 6: PRAIRIE FALCON (6)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: COURAGEOUS (2)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: C Dawson
COURAGEOUS took on winners in the Listed Ruffian Stakes last time. It must be noted that the horses that finished second and third that day have come out and won since. Her first two career outings on the Vaal Classic course were decent. The daughter of Canford Cliffs should love the rise to the mile and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, she can shed her maiden tag.
Race 5: COSMIC STAR (3)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: J A Janse van Vuuren
COSMIC STAR was ultra-impressive when shedding his maiden tag at the second time of asking. He showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Erupt takes on stronger, but he looks to be above average and should be up to the task at hand.
Top Bet For Today
Race 6: AVOONTOAST (4)
Jockey: S Khumalo – Trainer: J Soma
AVOONTOAST was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1400m on the Standside course last time. Despite shifting around in the closing stages, she won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Twice Over takes on stronger, but she has plenty of scope and looks to have class about her. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and the combination can follow up.
Race 8: NAPOLEON (4)
Jockey: D Schwarz – Trainer: T Peter
NAPOLEON raced from a handy position over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Bob’s Your Uncle. He finished third in his penultimate run over this C&D. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick on the son of Rafeef and he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

Race 7: TEAM GOLD (3)
Jockey: M Yeni – Trainer: R Magner
TEAM GOLD finished 0.75 lengths behind FOREVER MINE last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won three times, finished second three times and third once from eight starts on this course. The son of Twice Over jumps from pole position and on best form shown, he can return to winning ways.
