Get to Know A Stake in Stardom’s Anita Marks

Season 2 of “Stake in Stardom,” the America’s Best Racing initiative in which brand ambassadors become minority stake owners in an elite Thoroughbred, is underway. This year’s roster includes a few familiar faces from last season in addition to several new personalities eager to experience the sport and lifestyle of horse racing up close.

In order to get to know these owners a little better, we spoke with each of them individually to hear, firsthand, what it is they’re expecting from this season. Find out what ESPN’s Anita Marks has to say about having a “Stake in Stardom.”

Welcome to Thoroughbred racing. You are officially a co-owner in three 1-year-old racehorses, thanks to Vince Roth and Final Furlong Racing Stable. What are you looking forward to most about being a racehorse owner?

All the things! I’m very excited to head down to Ocala, Fla., in April to meet the fillies. I’ll have the opportunity to watch them train, feed them, and hopefully connect. I like that Vince is bringing me in while they are only 1 year old – to experience the full ride. I’m certain the first time I’m in an owner’s box to watch them races will be beyond thrilling.

What excites you the most about Thoroughbred horse racing?

I’m an athlete, and have competed at the professional level. Thoroughbreds are the ultimate athletes, and watching them compete is one of the most exciting sporting events I’ve witnessed.

What’s it been like working with Final Furlong?

I feel very fortunate to be teamed up with Vince Roth. It has only been a short time, but it is evident how much he loves the sport, his horses, and I know this will be a wonderful experience with Vince by my side.

What experience have you had with horse racing? If so, what was your favorite memory?

I was fortunate to work for NBC and ESPN the year American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, and I was able to attend every race – hosting the pre-race show for both networks. It was an amazing feeling to watch him win every leg, and cross the finish line as a Triple Crown winner in the Belmont Stakes.

What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about the sport as you’ve become more involved?

How much genetics plays such a huge role in a horse’s success and failure in this sport.

How does attending a horse race compare with other live events (e.g., other sports, concerts)?

A horse race is one of the most exhilarating experiences when it comes to watching sports. Especially once they make that final turn – watch out, there is nothing like it!

What’s your top gambling tip for people who are new to horse racing?

Find someone who knows how to read the Daily Racing Form well – and follow their lead! Also … be sure to hit up the paddock pre-race to get a feel for just how amazing these horses are.

What do you think your followers will enjoy most about your horse racing experience?

The journey I will take them on with me – watching these fillies grow up – and hopefully develop into successful winning Thoroughbreds.

Where can people follow you on social media to join you on your horse racing adventures?
