Today’s batch of semifinals will aspire to reach the heights of drama that most of yesterday’s semifinals achieved, with Washington eliminating Auburn and then Arkansas and Stanford putting up valiant 197 fights in ultimately unsuccessful upset bids.

Cal and Michigan State start us out today, up against Western Michigan and West Virginia, and for this to get dicey, you imagine one the top two seeds would have to Auburn on an event. Both Cal and Michigan State will aim for something around 49.5 from the opening rotation to establish a serious margin early.

Rotation 1

Singh – UB – WMU – hits tkatchev with some foot position – bail, solid vertical – a bit shy on cast hs on high – DLO, rebound in place. Solid.

DeSouza – BB – Cal – cat leap to aerial, solid – bhs loso, secure – beat to sheep jump, some leg form – sissone – 1.5 dismount, lean to try to hold the stick, steps forward into salute

Irwin on vault for West Virginia, y1/2 with good form int he air but a large lunge forward

Nyah Smith with a big bounce back on her final double pike on floor, OOB.

LOVE our lack of live scores so far. Good good.

Lewis – VT – WVU – bounce back on yfull, some pike

DeSouza with a 9.850 on beam, Singh with 9.725 on bars.

Williams stays on beam for Cal, a bit shaky and a bounce back on gainer full.

It’s 9.650 for Nyah Smith with that OOB.

Kalefe – FX – MSU – punch front 2/1, good, around, small slide forward – switch to wolf hop full to shushunova, pretty low amplitude at the end of that combination – punch rudi to loso is solid. 9.875

Li – BB – Cal – aerial to loso, holds it securely – switch to split to beat, nice – gainer tuck full, hop forward.

Pierson vaults a solid yfull for WVU, small hop back and a little pike. Good.

Wehry – VT – West Virginia – handspring pike 1/2 is solid, bounce back, some chest position.

Harkness – FX – MSU – solid FTDT, controls front foot – split leap full to wolf full, around well – front tuck through to double tuck, chest up. Nice. 9.925

Frazier had a wobble on her split ring jump on beam and a hop to the side on dismount for Cal.

Moravansky – UB – Western Michigan – blind to jaeger to overshoot is hit – DLO, good height, bounce back

Stephen – FX – MSU – front tuck through to double pike, a bit out fo control, lunge back – switch 1/2 to wolf full – front 2/1 a little deep, crossover step – fine, not her best landings.

Lauzon has to make a huge save on her triple series on beam for Cal, stays on well but major break – 2/1 dismount, stuck with a stagger. Kind of going to need a hit from Perea now.

Nikki Smith – MSU – FTDT, solid landing – switch 1/2 to popa, around – back 1.5 to layout, clean work – doubel tuck, bounce back, keeps it in bounds

Perea hits her kickover to back tuck – switch to split to beat is nice – side somi to tuck 1.5 is connected, does well to hold onto the stick and not move because she was starting to lean.

Perea goes 9.900 to get Cal to 49.275 on beam.

Schulte – FX – MSU – FTDT, lands a bit short, step forward – switch 1/2, slightly over, into popa straddle jump, great straddle positions – front tuck through to double tuck, some rebound
